Cosmic Yakusugi Cedars
The Cosmic Yakusugi Ceders are trees that grew from seeds brought on board the Space Shuttle by astronaut Mamoru Mohri for his February 2000 mission. Among the 1,180 Yakusugi seeds that returned to Earth, five developed into trees large enough to survive in nature. On January 20, 2003, one of these trees was donated to the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation by Kagoshima Prefecture Governor Tatsuro Suga.
The Cosmic Yakusugi Cedars are a symbol of global environmental awareness, and now, together with the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, they will continue to develop.
