Designated Prefectural Historic Site on April 6, 1956
(Municipal Property)
Address: Nishizaka-machi, Nagasaki
After being arrested for violation of Toyotomi-Hideyoshi's ban on Christianity and brought to Nagasaki from the Osaka/Kyoto area, six foreign missionaries and twenty Japanese Christians were crucified on this hill on February 5, 1597. The story of these twenty six Christians was heard in far-off Europe by Pope Pius IX who canonized these twenty six martyrs as saints in 1862.
