Nakagamiho Seikaido
This Kaido or highway was one of the post roads that sped royal government decrees throughout the kingdom and brought tax collections to the Ryukyu Government in Shuri. It was also called the Kuji Road. The Nakagamiho Seikaido started at Shuri and ran to Takushi in Urasoe via Taira and Ona, and then on through Kyozuka, Ahacha, Nakama and Makiminato to its terminus at Yomitan. It was a vital link northward to Onna and Kunigami region.
This slope was called the Nishinuhira (Slope of the North), and was once a precipitous stone paved road. Along with the Fenuhira (Slope of the South) in Ona, this point was said to be a chokepoint for traffic along the Kaido.
